The Trump administration has ushered in a deregulatory breeze at the Federal Communications Commission where several legacy rules are being modernized or abolished altogether. But the same spirit doesn’t seem to be overtaking the Justice Department, where, one year into the administration, its antitrust review team continues to cast a skeptical eye toward media deal-making.
That’s become most evident as Sinclair Broadcast Group has sought to win approval of its $3.9 billion acquisition of Tribune Media, a deal that includes Chicago’s heritage news-talker WGN (720).
