A Missouri state lawmaker is calling on the Federal Communications Commission to revoke the license of a St. Louis radio station for racist and offensive comments made by one of its hosts. Sen. Jamilah Nasheed (D-St. Louis) has sent a letter to FCC chair Ajit Pai accusing Entertainment Media Trust classic country/talk KQQZ (1190) of violating the FCC’s rules against obscenity, indecency and profanity.

Close Tribune Buy, Sinclair Will Sell 23 Stations In 18 Markets.
Aiming to appease regulators and accelerate the closing of its $3.9 purchase of Tribune Media, Sinclair Broadcast Group says it will sell 23 TV stations in 18 markets to six different buyers. The spinoffs add seven new markets to the original 11 the company had earmarked for sale back in February.
Tribune Media CEO Peter Kern said Sinclair’s latest move was intended to “pave the way for regulatory approval” of the blockbuster deal.

Latest Edison Study: AM/FM Radio Grabs 50% ‘Share Of Ear’ In.
AM/FM radio continues to dominate a rapidly expanding audio universe in the U.S., accounting for half the time Americans spend listening to audio. AM/FM grabbed a 50% “share of ear” according to new first quarter 2018 data from Edison Research – more than triple that of streaming audio. The new numbers include both AM/FM radio delivered over the air and via online streaming. But broadcast radio receivers are far and away the top device for listening to audio.

The CRB/CRS Executive Director Bill Mayne To Step Down Next Year.
After leading the Country Radio Broadcasters/Country Radio Seminar since 2011 as executive director, Bill Mayne will leave his post in May 2019. Mayne will oversee the organization through the 50th Anniversary CRS set for next February and help in the search for his successor. Prior to his position as executive director, Mayne served on the organization’s board of directors.

An Anonymous Listener Leaves $10 Million To Seattle’s KEXP.
KEXP-FM Seattle (90.5) has received one of the largest ever bequests to an individual public radio station. An anonymous listener, identified only as Suzanne, left nearly $10 million to the trend-setting adult alternative station.
